The Environmental Justice Movement was born at the intersection of the civil rights movement and the environmental movement. It seeks to combat discriminatory practices of the past and present that have caused communities of color to live in heavily polluted and underdeveloped areas. Today, Environmental Justice’s role is more important than ever as the scale of the climate crisis increases, and the stakes become more dire for frontline communities who will experience the first and worst effects. Environmental Justice work focuses on protecting, building resilience within, and supporting these communities.
